Being asked to tell the story of Ben & Belinda’s wedding day, was for me, a humbling experience. Ben is my brother in law and this was a family wedding in which everyone was involved. My wife Bec was one of Belinda’s bridesmaids and our two little kiddies were (obviously I’ll be biased here) the cutest flower girl and page boy there has ever been.
Ben & Belinda had picked a place extremely special to them both, a place where they love to spend time and where memories have been forged. They were set to be married perched atop Sydney harbour, in an intimate garden overlooking the harbour from Mosman. The weather, however, had other ideas. As you will see, the day before was spectacular and Sydney harbour seriously showed itself off. But we knew what had been predicted. Still, hoping for the best, the plans continued as they had been laid out. Even on the morning of the wedding, there was still hope that the weather would hold, however, as winds increased to 100km per hour and cyclonic like conditions set in, at the last minute, the ceremony was moved and unfortunately, delayed… We rang guests, spread the word and waited until we could bunker down inside the Gunners Barracks, where the reception was to be held.
One thing that was planned, however, never changed. Ben & Belinda… in a place they loved, surrounded by people they loved… were married. Everything that seemed so important, faded away and friends and family surrounded Ben & Belinda and shared in their joy. Plans changed, locations changed… the weather was so incredibly brutal, that even when we tried to step outside to take a few portraits in the fading winter light, we were close to literally being blown away!
And in the midst of a storm like no other… we celebrated love, we partied… and we shared in Ben & Belinda’s day… a day we will all remember, we will all cherish. I am so thankful that I can share the story of Ben & Belinda’s wedding with you. The weather (as brutal as it was), was still completely overshadowed by their story, by their love… not the other way around.
Take a look…
